Mbappe's transfer to Real Madrid was nearly done before the coronavirus outbreak.

A former PSG midfielder predicts that France Forward Mbappe will transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu in the immediate future at some stage.

Kylian Mbappe's joining Real Madrid is "only a matter of time," according to Jerome Rothen, who believes that the Paris Saint-Germain prospect was preparing for the La Liga giants prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mbappe appears to be tied to a sensational transfer to Spain, where head coach Zinedine Zidane has made no secret of his love for France as an foreign player.

The 21-year-old, who left Monaco for French PSG rivals on an original loan arrangement in 2017, has been signed until 2022, however amid the strongest intentions of the team, Mbappe is no closer to pledging his future to the Ligue 1 champions.

Ex PSG mediator Rothen said that Mbappe had already left with Madrid before the Covid 19 tragedy – which destroyed more than 108,700 lives worldwide – had wreaked havoc on sport and culture.

"I know from mutual sources that the bid to take Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid was almost done," said Rothen, who won two titles in his six-year PSG, to Radio Montecarlo.

"Because, given what's going on, I'm sure Mbappe's debut at Real Madrid will be delayed." Rothen said, "There's no hope that Mbappe will be able to prolong his PSG deal." They're expected to have an agreement in place because PSG agreed to let him go last summer. It's all a question of time, in my mind.

Prior to Coronavirus halting Ligue 1 and sport all over the globe, Mbappe had netted 18 goals in the league and 30 in all PSG competitions in 2019-20.

Last season, Mbappe played Real Madrid in the Champions League stage with Zidane expressing his support for the French player last year.

"You know I've met him for a long time," Zidane said at the time of the media briefing. "I'm always in love with him, first of all as a kid, because he came here for a trial a long time ago." He comes as a competitor on Tuesday. What counts to me is what we're going to achieve, how we're going to train for it. We know the player, so we've got to be prepared.
