Barca hopes to swap Neymar-Griezmann

Barca aims to re-sign Neymar in part-exchange with Paris Saint-Germain through Antoine Griezmann.

Barcelona expects to establish a part-exchange deal for Neymar that will see Antoine Griezmann join Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The Catalan club is prepared to let Griezmann go after only one season to help finance the target acquisitions of Neymar and Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, as a consequence of the financial problems triggered by coronavirus bites in the Nou Community.

We are known to estimate France international at £ 88 m (€ 100 m) and seek to offer it somewhere because neither the player nor the PSG, who currently estimate Neymar at £ 135 m (€ 150 m), has some interest in such a contract.

Yet deals as costly as such appear highly impossible, because only the wealthiest teams in Europe are calculating the expense of their activities being postponed in the wake of the pandemic.

Barca captain Lionel Messi revealed last week that he and his team-mates had decided to accept a 70 per cent salary reduction to help protect the financial security of the club during the pandemic, though making another shot at the owners to indicate that the management are hesitant to do so.

Messi has seemed to have disagreed with the Barca Board several occasions in the past several months and was one of the important players surprised not to see the return of Neymar past season, when Barca's tremendous attempts to re-sign him proved futile and only Griezmann was introduced to the front line in a $105 m (120 m) transfer from Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann claims that he still has a future at the team, and is reported to be taking part in the launch of the latest Barcelona kit for next season in the immediate future, but could slip to the fourth or fifth option if Barca somehow manages to secure Neymar and Lautaro without his selling, behind Messi and Luis Suarez.

Griezmann, a 29-year-old, netted just eight goals in 26 La Liga games this season, including two more in the Champions League and four more in the other cup competitions.

Messi's re-signing of a new deal remains a target for Barcelona this summer, but Argentina's international is in no hurry, with more than a year left to its existing arrangement.
